International Women’s Day in Dublin

International Women’s Day is tomorrow, Saturday March 8 2014, to celebrate there are a number of events happening around the city.

Network Ireland, the European Parliament Information Office and Concern are hosting a celebration of International Women’s Day in Dublin Castle.

The event will take place today (Friday 7 March) from 12 to 3pm with the theme of Overcoming Adversity Through Collaboration and will include speeches from RTE’s Mary Kennedy, Labour MEP Emer Costello and Anne O’Mahony of Concern.

ActionAid Ireland and Exchange Art Collective are holding a series of performances, workshops, exhibitions and classes in Exchange Temple Bar. The events will run this weekend on Saturday from 12.30pm and Sunday from 1.30pm.

The National Woman’s Council of Ireland (NWCI) is holding a soapbox for women to talk about what women want (for three to five minutes). The event will take place tomorrow from 12 to 4pm outside the GPO on O’Connell Street.

“A range of women, both young and old, from Ireland’s artistic, political, musical and journalistic community are going to take part. Many will join the NWCI Soap Box in O’Connell Street and others will join the NWCI Soap Box online,” said the NWCI website about the event.
