Railway Union: Cardinal Capital Group to be a Railway Sponsor

Railway Women's Matches 091114 407

Cardinal will become the main sponsor of Railway Women’s senior teams and Girls’ U18 and U15 teams, as well as a sleeve sponsor on the Men’s senior teams. This will dovetail with Cleaning Contractors, who are the main sponsor on the Men’s senior and U20 teams and sleeve sponsor on the Women’s and Girls’ sides.

“We have a real belief in equality in sport and the promotion of sport for all,” said Nick Corcoran of Cardinal. “Nigel McDermott, my business partner at Cardinal, and I have six daughters between us and we have been impressed by Railway’s philosophy of a true community-based approach, where rugby is simply just rugby and neither social background nor gender are of any relevance. We spent time at the club when considering this sponsorship and you could sense this culture by just observing the interaction of the players and members. It was very refreshing. In addition, Railway’s work with schools in their community and the promotion of 7s rugby has been a tremendous success at introducing rugby to new entrants to the sport and we are delighted to support them in their efforts.”

Railway’s Schools 7s tournament has been running for three years and has introduced over 1,000 girls to the game and has produced numerous Leinster and Ireland players.

“This sponsorship will allow us to widen our net and coach more players, support them with highly-skilled and experienced coaches, and give them the belief that they can achieve in the sport,” said Railway’s Director of Rugby John Cronin. “It will give a huge amount of girls the opportunity to participate and feel supported in rugby. We are certain that there will be girls who will play rugby for Leinster and Ireland, and perhaps become future Olympians, whose first time playing rugby will be through programmes supported by Cardinal,” concluded Cronin.

The three-year deal runs to the 2016 Rio Olympics and beyond.
