On Monday June 13th, celebrations will take place across the country commemorating the 151st birthday of one of Ireland’s greatest poets, William Butler Yeats.

But residents of Dublin 4 need not worry about having to travel to take part in the festivities, as there will be an event on in Sandymount Green specifically for members of the community. Running from 11.30 to 12.30, the theme of it will be “Yeats and Easter Rising” to coincide with this year’s centenary celebrations.

Similar events have taken place at Sandymount Green in the last few years, with activities including live readings of Yeats’ work, performances of songs and music and presentations of the bust of Yeats. The theme of last year’s celebrations have included Yeats’ love affair with Maud Gonne, with live readings of correspondence between the two.

The event is organised by historian and former principal of the Enable Ireland School Anthony J. Jordan, who has written and published three biographies about Yeats.
