Following Padraig Og O’Ruairc’s mention of Margaret Keogh’s story in his recent book, ‘Truce’, things have gathered pace. Matt Ward who took O’Ruairc’s story to a new level in investigating Margaret’s story in regards to continuing her legacy by way of remembering our hero are surely coming to fruition.

The Margaret Keogh Memorial Group is now well established with the aim of reuniting Margaret’s relatives whom we have been successful in achieving and continuing her journey, as her head stone reads “Margaret – died for Ireland.”

The committee remembered Margaret at her former home at 20 Stella Gardens by laying a commerative wreath at her doorstep and placed by Christine O’Riordan (Margaret’s neice) and May MacGiolla (widow of Tomas MacGiolla) life-long republican and member of Cumann Na bMan of which Margaret was also a member.

Anthony O’Riordan, Margaret’s grand-nephew spoke about Margaret at the 95th anniversary remembering that sad night in question. Margaret passed away two days later on July 12th, 1921 from her gunshot wounds. Anthony with his family took the flowers to Margaret’s resting place in Glasnevin the following day.

The Committee and Public Group are hoping one day to establish a permanent fixture for Margaret for the sacrifice she made for this great country of ours. On behalf of everyone involved, thank you very much. Please join the “Margaret Keogh Memorial Group” on Facebook. Is Mise Le Meas – Anthony O’Riordan.
