Before i die…..
Residents of Sandymount may have noticed the large chalkboard that appeared on the wall of the electricity substation on Sandymount Green last month. The board was headed with the striking words “Before I die…” and invited passers by to use the chalk provided to fill in blank spaces on this theme, so that locals could express the goals which they would like to achieve in their lifetime.

DCC announce further work on local flood defences
Dublin City Council has proposed further coastal flood defence measures to counter the effects of future flooding incidents in Dublin 4 coastal areas. The planned works arise from an analysis by DCC of recent flood damage in the Sean Moore Park and Merrion Gates areas.

Return of the 1st Port of Dublin Sea Scouts
The 1st Port of Dublin Sea Scouts have formally re-opened due to public demand within the community. They are a member of Scouting Ireland, an organisation of over 500 groups and 50,000 members around Ireland, entirely volunteer led and offer sea scouting to girls and boys from ages 6 – 10.

Two French acting legends, Isabelle Huppert and Gerard Depardieu, team up for the first time in over three decades for Valley of Love, in which the pair play a divorced French couple who reunite in the American SouthWest to follow a mysterious set of clues left in their son’s suicide note. It’s a spiritual movie, with many Christ allusions, but it never shoves its beliefs down your throat, and the two leads are on top form.

Dublin City Council South East Area coordinate a lot of environmental works each year to ensure the city’s villages are blooming and clean. The Public Domain Section, Waste Management Division and Community Development Section work closely with many communities on this work.

The third annual Bloomsday Breakfast at the Iris Charles Centre, Newbridge Avenue, Sandymount, was a great success this year. The event, which was organised by the Iris Charles Bloomsday Committee, is now the highlight of Sandymount’s celebrations of one of its most famous former residents.

Pieta House Fundraiser a Great Success
The Sandymount Ladies Golfing Society (SLGS) in partnership with O’Reilly’s Golfing Society (ORGS), held an enjoyable and profitable golf and BBQ day in aid of Pieta House on Friday, July 1st. The event took place in St Margaret’s Golf Club and a great game of golf was had by all, despite the varied weather of rain, hail and sunshine!
