Sandymount-based vocal harmony group, Ceiliúradh Choir, are gearing up this month for another busy festive season of practice and performances.
The group has been active in the local area for over twenty years, having delighted audiences of Christmases past at charity carol-singing events and concert appearances.
Dedicated to spreading the joy of music all year round, Ceiliúradh Choir regularly contribute musical items to events in aid of voluntary and charity groups. Choir engagements in the past have benefitted homeless charities such as the Simon Community and Brother Kevin’s Capuchin Day Centre at Merchants Quay, and the group contribute to Mount Tabor Nursing Home’s annual Christmas concert in Sandymount village.
Ceiliúradh currently consists of around 20 voices, and they welcome new members of any vocal range and style, as choir member Mike Walsh explained: “Whether you are a soprano, alto, tenor or bass or are not quite sure, why not give us a try? The ability to read music is not a requirement. The choir has a considerable Christmas repertoire of familiar, and some less familiar, carols and songs. Our repertoire includes popular, classical, folk and traditional Irish styles of music.”
Ceiliúradh Choir currently meet for choir practice in Sandymount village on Thursday evenings from 8 to 10 p.m. They hold their main annual concert in St. Mary’s church, Anglesea Road, at the end of May. For details about the choir, contact Róisín Ryan on (01) 494 6168.
