The Minister for Communications, Climate Action & Environment, Denis Naughten TD, will officially launch the next phase of the popular Home Energy Saving Kit initiative on Tuesday, 7th March at 9am in Pearse Street Library.
Home Energy Saving Kits will now be available for the public to borrow free-of-charge from all Dublin City Public Libraries, following a successful pilot scheme in 2016.
The kits were developed by the Dublin energy agency Codema and contain six practical tools to help the public save energy and cut costs. These tools address three key areas of energy use in the home – space heating, hot water and electricity consumption – and can identify common issues in Dublin homes such as lack of insulation, poor ventilation and the appliances that might be driving up electricity bills.
This is the first time that such a scheme has been introduced into Ireland, and this next phase will be supported by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), who will work with Codema and Dublin City Public Libraries to evaluate the impact of the kits on Dublin households. SEAI will also focus on how to encourage homeowners to take the next steps in improving their home’s energy efficiency.
