Captain’s Brunch at Railway Union

Railway Union RFC are hosting their club captain’s pre-match brunch on the morning of the Ireland v Wales game in Donnybrook on February 25th.

“We changed our club structures five years ago so that the club captain would be separate from team captains,” said Railway Chairperson Grant Hourigan. “This way the club captain could be any player from any adult team in the club and not necessarily the automatic default of the Men’s 1st XV captain being club captain”

“Our view was that the club captain would be someone that would represent all of the club and be a role model for our club.”

“Aoife Maher was elected unanimously by our members to become our club captain for this season. She is the first female club captain in Railway’s history and the first female club captain of any rugby club in Ireland. It is a fitting honour, as she has made an extraordinary contribution in her time with us. She is a role model and is recognised as such by all our players and members,” concluded Hourigan.

The pre-match brunch is open to all, especially those travelling to the game and visitors from Wales. The reception opens at 11.30am, with food served from noon, and includes mimosas, gin tasting, full bar facilities and shuttle buses to Donnybrook for the game at 3pm.

Tickets are priced at €20 and are available online.
