There were smiles all around from the six female rugby players, three from Railway Union, and three from Suttonians who met earlier today at the Sandymount hotel instead of a rugby pitch.

#Changethegame – is an initiative from Railway Union’s women team, last seasons league winners to make history with the highest ever attendance at a Women’s club rugby game in Ireland before the playoffs.

Railway Union will play Suttonians Tribe, but there is more planned. The Park Avenue club will show all of the different sports girls and boys can participate in, there will be a school blitz tournament before the main match and mini games at halftime as well, plus all the usual activities of a family day out.

The main event is of course the rugby game .“It is the year of 20×20 and increasing the visibility of female sport in Ireland,” so Railway Union President Melissa Slevin. “This is the inaugural year of #ChangeTheGame but our intention is to make this an annual celebration of Women’s rugby.”

All the money taken in from entrance fees on the day will go in support of the LauraLynn Children Hospice foundation.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite and are priced at €10 for adults, €5 for students and Under-18s go free.
