RehabCare’s centre on Westland Square has been awarded the Highly Commended Award by the Rehab Group Innovation Awards.

RehabCare HOPS (Harrison’s Opportunities & Placement Service) won the award for their One Mile Kettlebells fundraiser, which was selected from 64 projects from across RehabCare, Rehab Group’s health and social care division.

The fundraiser was run in conjunction with Wild Geese Martial Arts on Pearse Street. Co-owner and certified kettlebell trainer Dave Hedges performed the feat of swinging a kettlebell for over 2,000 repetitions with 16kg in 2011, and 24kg in 2012. He has raised over €5,000 for RehabCare HOPS Resource Centre with each event.

Nessa Canavan, Community Services Manager from RehabCare HOPS said, “The Rehab Group Innovation Awards reward examples of best practice, improvement and creativity in Rehab Group across all divisions and are designed to encourage employees and people who use the services to develop new ideas and projects. It’s great that our project has been recognised out of so many innovative projects across the organisation. Everyone in the centre and in Wild Geese Martial Arts works really hard to ensure that this fundraiser is successful and that it makes a difference to peoples’ lives.”

The Rehab Group consists of not-for-profit companies and charities, whose 3,200-strong staff provide services across Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, Poland, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia, with the aim of achieving a world in which everyone has the opportunity to meet their potential.
