You can’t buy love, but you can sure rescue it
Poolbeg Yacht and Boat Club held a fundraising Tea and Coffee morning back in October, organised by local resident, Catherine Bolton. This was to highlight and raise awareness about the stray and feral cats roaming around the neighbourhoods and wider communities who deserve a chance to have good health, affection, and attention with humane and compassionate care. Catherine, who is a new volunteer, helps with the trapping of the cats to be neutered and then releases them back to their colony. She is very passionate about giving her time to something she believes in.
With a wonderful turnout and the most tasty and delicious homemade cakes to choose from, it was a great way to bring friends and neighbours together for a cuppa and a chat, all while helping to raise money for the charities.
Dublin based Cats Aid, is a non-profit making organisation, made up of core volunteers who are dedicated in providing a safe haven for abandoned street cats. Their objectives are to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome. Their ethos is on the explicit understanding that no health-recoverable cat taken in will be destroyed. They also aim to promote the five freedoms of animals; freedom from hunger and thirst, pain, injury and disease, discomfort, fear and distress, and the freedom to express normal behaviour. Dogs Aid Animal Sanctuary was set up in 1987 to help unwanted and abandoned dogs in Dublin. They also look after cats and wildlife, including birds, foxes and hedgehogs, among others. These super caregivers give up their time for the rehabilitation of these animals, including the education to the general public about the importance of spaying and neutering to curb animal overpopulation and suffering.
These organisations are entirely funded by donations, sponsorships and fundraising events and are always looking for more volunteers including dog walkers, so if you would like to support them in their work, please do get in touch on their social media pages and websites where you can make a difference.
The Coffee Morning raised a super €2,003 and a big thanks goes to everyone who came out to support, and to everybody involved who helped with the organising of this successful fundraising event.
