The Legacy of Bram Stoker

Sea Scouts aboard the Liffey Ferry in advance of the Commemorative Bram Stoker Row

Abroad the Liffey Ferry, Sea Scouts from 4th Port Dodder launched an illuminated row from Samuel Beckett Bridge to the Point to commemorate Bram Stoker who rowed for Trinity College at a time when the rowing club was situated on the River Dodder. The event was followed by the unveiling of a plaque celebrating Stoker’s relationship with Ringsend. The Sea Scouts spent time in the company of Douglas Appleyard, the last remaining member of the Stoker family in Dublin.

Brian Boru Sail Training weekends

Over two weekends some Sea Scouts joined 1st Port onboard the Brian Boru, sailing around Dublin Bay, experiencing life at sea, gaining skills afloat and meeting fellow scouts.

November

Seafarers Memorial 3rd Nov

 4th Port Dodder Sea Scouts carried the flags of the shipping companies at the annual Seafarers Commemoration in City Quay.  The Irish Ships sunk in World War 2 were especially remembered:

The Munster, Leukos, City of Limerick, Meath, Luimneach, Kerry Head, Ardmore, Isolda, St Fintan, Innisfallen, Clonlara, City of Waterford, City of Bremen, Irish Pine, Kyleclare, Irish Oak, Cymric and Naomh Garbhan.

Watch Leader Training 9th & 10th Nov

The Watch Leaders and Assistant Watch Leaders participated in an overnight training activity. They met up with 35 other Patrol Leaders and Watch Leaders from the seven scout groups in Scout County.  The event started in Dartry Scout Den, then continuing along the River Dodder to the Donnybrook Scout Den, where the Scouts gained many leadership skills training and lots of team building, with the Scouts cooking their own meal on Saturday night.  Lots of new friendships were made.

December

The spirit of Christmas is very evident in December, the Scouts are collecting food for those in need.  They also plan to join the residents of Bath Avenue for a Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, some Christmas craft making, a December Campfire with smores, and a Christmas movie night will bring them right up to Christmas. The 4th Port Dodder wish Everyone a Happy Christmas, especially the wonderful youth members, the leaders, the families, our neighbours in Derrynane Gardens,and the extended members of the community.
