Whether you have known Ulysses your entire life or are just being introduced to it, Bloomsday is a fun and informative celebration of this hugely influential story.
The celebrations on Thursday June 16th will feature a lot of activities. With Romping Through Ulysses, a guide to everything James Joyce, Ulysses and the places that inspired the story, you will be able to find the best way to create your own adventure.
Costing just €8, the book is available in three A4 prints each containing an enjoyable quote from the original text. The volumes available are The One with Herself, The One with the Fight and The One with the Swim, all of which are inspired by chapters from the book.
The book can be bought at bookshops, museums and gift shops throughout the country. It is one of a series of guidebooks on classic Irish literature that also includes Romping Through Dubliners, Romping Through Dracula and Romping Through Dorian Gray.
Other items available will be notebooks and greeting cards for different purposes, both of which are reasonably priced.
Another Joycean event occurring on Bloomsday is The Citizen’s Breakfast – an indoor and outdoor play that will use poetic licence on how the author of Ulysses left his lodgings on Shelbourne Rd for his first date with Nora Barnacle. The play will include an outdoor piece on Shelbourne Rd, Ballsbridge performed by actors and members of the local community. There will be two performances, one at 11am and the other at 3pm.
Tickets are available at the NewsFour office in Ringsend; and at ‘Books on the Green’ bookstore, Sandymount. For a more in depth preview, see NewsFour new edition on June 2nd.
