Dublin City Libraries has launched this year’s Summer Reading Buzz!

Last year over 2,000 children took part in the programme, which aims to encourage children to read during their summer holidays. Every time they finish a book, they get a bee stamp on their Buzz membership card. When they have read ten books, their card will be entered into a draw for the chance to win prizes.

Pearse Street Library will be running a number of free events throughout July and August as part of the programme.

For the eight to 10 year olds there is Mr. Higgle Piggle’s Story Shop, running from Monday the 14th to Friday the 18th of July, from 11.30 to 3.00pm. Children are invited to bring something from home to put into Mr Higgle Piggle’s shop window, which will become the beginning of a story that they create for themselves. At the end of the week, each child will be able to bring home their own version of the Mr Higgle Piggle’s Story Shop.

On the Saturday the 26th of July at 3pm, the library will play host to The Merchant of Ennis, presented by Carnation Theatre. Set in an old-fashioned local shop, this hour-long show is open to families and children of all ages and brings the story to life with live music, puppetry and an interactive set.

All events are free, but booking is advised as places are limited. To book, send an email to pearsestreetlibrary@dublincity.ie, or ring 01 6744888.
