The National Library of Ireland has launched its summer programme of children’s events.

Today from 2.30pm to 4pm children aged between five and eight are invited to take a tour of the magical world of Ireland’s mythology, with tales of heroes to spark their imaginations as they create their own stories through art.

One of Ireland’s best traditional storytellers, Niall de Burca will be taking children of all ages on a rollercoaster ride of storytelling on Saturday the 26th, drawing on his vast experience of working in theatre, radio and festivals, including the National Children’s Book Festival.

Bríd O’Sullivan, Head of Learning and Outreach with the NLI, said: “The NLI is a hugely significant national cultural institution, and one of our aims is to be open and accessible to all. That includes people of all ages. We love the energy that our younger visitors bring to the Library, and we are delighted to be able to provide such a fun-filled programme for summer 2014. As we welcome many school visits during the year, the summer programme provides the opportunity more informal visits! So we would strongly encourage them to give the NLI a try!”

No booking is needed for these free events. More information can be found on the National Library of Ireland’s website.
