This Saturday will see free yoga classes being given across Ireland.
The classes will be taking place in over 60 locations around the country to mark National Iyengar Yoga Day. More than 600 people are expected to take part, covering all levels of experience from absolute beginners to regular practitioners.
Aisling Guirke, Ireland’s most senior Iyengar yoga teacher spoke about the benefits of yoga: “Aside from the basic benefits that any yoga practice provides, Iyengar yoga especially helps with correct alignment, puts less stress on your muscles and is helpful if you’re recovering from an injury. We want as many people as possible to try out a free class to experience some of the physical and mental benefits of yoga. In January many people make and break New Year resolutions, but this is one New Year resolution we’d encourage them to keep and start the New Year on a healthy note.”
The classes will last for one hour and will be suitable for all ages and fitness levels, with both seated and standing exercises, followed by a long relaxation period.
For more information and for a full list of venues that will be running the free classes, check out the Dublin Iyengar Yoga Institute’s website.
