Run in the Dark

Run in the dark

The rain and traffic ground to a halt on Wednesday evening November 12th as over 2,000 people gathered to participate in the annual Run In The Dark event in aid of the Mark Pollock Trust, which supports research into a cure for spinal injury.

Decked in their bright running gear, the participants set off from CHQ along the north quays, crossed over the Samuel Beckett Bridge, through Hanover Quay, Grand Canal and into Ringsend.

The flashing red LED armbands that each of the runners wore gave the impression of a string of Christmas lights trailing through the darkened streets.

In the absence of traffic, the buzz of chatter and the steady slap of footfall dominated the urban soundscape. Friendly locals opened their doors and spurred us on with cheers and a few even got a high five from a little girl with curls.

The more energetic runners continued into Irishtown to complete a 10k, but whether it was 5k or 10k, all finally looped back over Toll Bridge Road.

It was a wonderful event made all the more special by the presence of the indomitable Mark Pollock.
