East Wall History Group is beginning its commemoration of the 1916 Rising today.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Christy Burke will this evening unveil They Did Us Proud: Our Heroes Gone, a painting by Eilish Lynch depicting a representation of the Easter Rising and Independence struggle.

Eilish’s family is steeped in the history of the time. Both of her parents were members of the Irish Citizen Army, and her brother was a Volunteer in the Irish Republican Army, later dying as a member of the National Army in 1922.

The event will also see the theatre launch a writing and drama competition in keeping with the theme of 1916 and the works of Sean O’Casey.

The unveiling begins this evening at 7.30pm sharp in Sean O’Casey Theatre on St Mary’s Road in East Wall. For more information, check the Facebook event page, or East Wall History Group page.
