NewsFour attended the Herbert Park Bowling Club, meeting with members during a practice match, at the commencement of the summer season. The Bowling Club are a social club, ideal for making friends, keeping fit and for the love of bowling. They are encouraging people to come along and learn something new.

Noel Nutley, a senior member and veteran of the Bowling Club, spoke with NewsFour about the benefits of the game and the bowling club for the community. “I look at this as exercise for the mind. You’re getting the fresh air, you’re focused on the tactics of the game and with plenty of physical exertion.”

Herbert Park Bowling Club is actively looking for new members to join. People of all ages are welcome, the club appeal to people ideally from within the community.

The club is located next to the tennis courts at the heart of Herbert Park, in Ballsbridge. They have been running for over 50 years in this historic, beautiful park.

They operate out of a newly-refurbished clubhouse, well-kept changing rooms and with their own tea rooms.

Another veteran member of the Bowls club, Joe Kelly, added that “everyone is welcome, there is no commitment to be made. Coaching will be provided for both males and females alike of all ages. This is a great way to make friends and keep fit.”

For those interested, the club play competition matches with other clubs and practice games, but the idea of the sport is to have fun and enjoy the outdoors. The club is holding an open day in April and all are welcome to attend.

The club is also hoping to start up a junior team and would encourage people to come along for the open day, with free tea and refreshments provided. For further information, contact Maureen: 087 957 4299, or Andy: 086 867 2909
