Movie of the Week - Green Room

Movie of the Week – Green Room

The members of a punk band find themselves fighting for their lives against a Neo-Nazi gang led by Patrick Stewart in the outstanding thriller Green Room. A throwback to the gritty genre movies of the 1970s, this one grips you from the beginning and is unrelenting in its tension, filled with moments that will have you leaping out of your seat. One of the year’s must see movies!

Mustang

Mustang is an excellent Turkish drama about a quintet of teenage sisters who find themselves forced one by one into arranged marriages. Brilliantly acted by its young cast, it’s an angry and damning indictment of the treatment of women in religious societies.

Everybody Wants Some!!

Fresh off the acclaim for his coming of age drama Boyhood, Richard Linklater returns with a mediocre college comedy drama. Everybody Wants Some!! follows a group of baseball players in a Texas college in 1980 as they indulge in stereotypical jock behaviour. It’s won a lot of acclaim but annoyed the hell out of me.

Our Kind of Traitor

Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris are caught up in international espionage in the dull John le Carre adaptation Our Kind of Traitor. As spy movies go, this one is decidedly low on thrills, lacking any standout set-pieces and devoid of tension and suspense.

Solaris

The Irish Film Institute begins a comprehensive season of the films of Russian master director Andrei Tarkovsky this week. Every one of his movies is a must see and you can catch Ivan’s Childhood on Saturday, Andrei Rublev on Sunday and Solaris on Wednesday.
