Students from Sandymount were among the 7000 attendees at the North Bull Island in Clontarf for the Dublin Kite Festival. Sunday saw kite flyers and spectators from all over the country converge for a full day of free activities.

Catherine Etienne from Pure Magic and children from Scoil Mhuire Lakelands and Star of the Sea BNS in Sandymount took part in the fun by brandishing their kites and adding some colour to the city’s skyline. Other forms of entertainment on the day included lively music, exciting games, kite making workshops and a kite flying competition.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Críona Ní Dhálaigh was among the festival’s attendees and commented on its appeal:

“Dublin Kite Festival is a wonderful event and I’m delighted it’s returned to Dollymount Strand again this year. Kite flying is a great family activity, suitable for all ages. You don’t have to be a child or even a kite enthusiast to enjoy yourself. It’s all about being outside, being active and having fun. With free entertainment all day, it’s a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon in our Capital! Bigí linn agus cur d’eitleóg ag eitilt.”

The festival’s event manager Kathryn Byrne spoke of the joy she and her team experience in making it a reality:

“The Dublin Kite Festival has fast become one of our favourite events of the summer; the atmosphere is always upbeat and everyone is always in great spirits. Kite flying is an ideal activity in Dublin, especially with our windy weather conditions, and is an ideal activity for both young and old. The Kite Festival is always a guaranteed great day out.”

The Dublin Kite Festival is organised by the Dublin City Council and supported by 98FM and Pure Magic. Anyone wishing to find more information can do so at the following links:
