Poetry and Music in Pearse Street Library

As part of Culture Night, Pearse Street Library will present an evening of poetry readings and musical performances this Friday.


The library will re-open from 6pm-9pm and the evening will begin with readings from the acclaimed poets Catherine Ann Cullen and Iggy McGovern.

Cullen has published two poetry collections, A Bone in My Throat (2007) and Strange Familiar (2013), with a new one entitled The Other Now to be released in October.

McGovern has also published three collections, The King of Suburbia (2005), Safe House (2010) and A Mystic Dream of 4: A Sonnet based on the Life of William Rowan Hamilton (2013). He is a retired Professor of Theoretical Physics from Trinity College, Dublin, where he is a Fellow Emeritus in the School of Physics.

Following the poetry readings, a recital of world dance music will be performed by classical guitarists Luke Tobin and Gerard Boyle at 6.45pm.

A third poetry reading will take place at 7.45pm with Ronan Browne reading a selection of his poetry. His work has been featured in a number of poetry anthologies.

The evening will conclude with a session of traditional Irish music performed by harpist Síle Denvir and fiddle player Valerie Casey, both members of the group Líadan.

There will be light refreshments provided throughout the evening.
