Superleague champions UCD Marian coach Ioannis Liapakis and player Matt Kelly will be travelling to San Marino with Ireland’s senior mens international basketball team for the upcoming FIBA European Championship for Small Countries. Coach Ioannis Liapakis will be the assistant to Ireland’s head coach Pete Strickland and Matt Kelly will be slotting into a defensive role. Ireland recently played a friendly two-leg game with Luxembourg over the weekend. With Ireland winning the first but losing the 2nd in overtime at the Mardyke Arena in UCC. The FIBA European Championships for Small Countries begins tomorrow and lasts until the 1st of July. Ireland begins their first game on Friday against Malta and plays the other team in their group Andorra the following day.
