Donnybrook Lawn Tennis club celebrates 125 years with open day

By Paul Carton

Donnybrook Lawn Tennis Club is celebrating its 125th year in existence with an open day for the general public. The event is on this Sunday the 8th of July, begins midday and runs until 4pm. The club wants you and the family to come along and try their ‘tiger-turf’ courts and avail of free coaching under the big tennis ball in the sky. After soaking up the atmosphere and towels you can sit back and enjoy refreshments served on the day on their veranda looking out on the courts.

The club have also another reason to be proud, as their very own talent Georgia Drummy is as we speak about to enter the Wimbledon junior cup. Drummy has been playing since she was six and her family have been members of the club before that. Drummy has had a great run so far this year; winning Ecuador’s Mundial Juvenil de tenis back in February and made it into the French junior open before heading out to Wimbledon to compete in the junior finals which kicks off later this month. So instead of holding on to that remote this Sunday you might want to dust off that racket and grip that handle and serve up some aces, volleys and rally away the afternoon with your family at the Donnybrook Lawn Tennis Club.
