Donnybrook based UCD student Arthur Lanigan-O’Keefe has become the first Irish athlete to win a medal in the UIPM Pentathlon World Cup final. The event which was held in Kazakhstan this year consists of five events in total and Arthur came in top of the leaderboard in the horse riding and second in the swimming. But it was the decisive laser –run event, which Arthur referred to as “a real battle of guts” that he found he just couldn’t catch the winning Korean team of Jung Jinhwa and Jun Woongtae who took gold and silver. Arthur is now preparing for the European Championships in Hungary which kicks off this month.
