A Foxy Promotion

Pembroke Foxes Andrew Balbirnie has been promoted as of today as Ireland Men’s new test and One-day captain. He follows William Porterfield, who had held the position for over ten years.

Andy Balbirnie made his international debut in 2010 and has so far played 123 times for Ireland.

His Dublin club Pembroke Foxes are the current Irish Senior cup holders: “Andy is from Wilfield Road and grew up in Pembroke, and we are very proud of him!” so NewsFour heard from Sydney Parade.

The captaincy is not something new for him though, having captained Ireland’s U19 squad at the Under-19 Worldcup back in 2010. He is now looking forward to guide the Irish Cricketeers into an exciting 2020 season:

“We are very lucky that we are entering arguably the most exciting period to be an Irish cricketer, so to be able to lead the guys into this will be a great honour and challenge, and one that I’m looking forward to immensely.”
