Muckross Junior Hockey Club caters for over 400 children from 1st Class in primary school up until 4th year in secondary school. The club returned to training in August and the Committee ensured that all training sessions complied with Hockey Ireland COVID protocols. This was made possible due to the work of the club’s COVID Officers as well as a large number of parental volunteers.
The 1st to 5th class group trains in Muckross Park College on a Sunday morning under the guidance of Sophia Hjelseth and her team of experienced coaches. They teach the children the fundamental principles of hockey in a positive and fun environment. So far this season the club has participated in a number of Blitzes against other hockey clubs such as Our Lady’s and Monkstown, which were enjoyed by all participants.
The club were delighted to welcome former member and current Irish Ladies International Sarah McAuley back to the club on 7th of November for a presentation to mark her participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as part of the Irish Ladies Hockey Team. Sarah happily posed for pictures, signed autographs and answered a million and one questions from the next generation of hockey stars!
Our 6th class to 4th year group train in Muckross Park College and Teresians under the guidance of Irish Ladies Indoor International Sophie Barnwell and Adam Clayton. The 12 competitive teams in this group play competitively in the Leinster Hockey League each fortnight. All teams have made a fantastic start to the season playing a wonderful brand of hockey and hopefully will be in contention for some silverware after Christmas.
Four members of our Intermediate Squad; Honor Rowell, Aliya Davis, Kate Begley and Julia Holmes were selected for the 2021-22 Leinster U16 squad. This is a wonderful achievement and testament to the hard work and dedication that all bring to every training session.
