Paula Moen is an artist based out of Ringsend specialising in stylish upcycled plate art. These stunning pieces of art will surely bring a smile to your face every time you pass them in your home.

Paula started collecting vintage plates several years ago, with a plan to turn them into something special. When the pandemic hit, like so many of us, she found herself having to supplement her income. This was the perfect opportunity to create her art business, bringing a bit of joy and colour into people’s lives.

As mentioned by Paula:

“Each plate represents a nostalgic stamp in time – incorporating the past with the present. Who can remember the “good room” and using the “good” cups and saucers when visitors called to the house? These plates were once part of someone’s story – a wedding gift, an anniversary present, a new home, a new family or the beginnings of a new chapter in their life.”

Paula wants to give these beautiful plates new life, by putting her own stamp on them, mixing the Ireland of old with the Ireland of new. The designs range from quirky illustrations, inspirational quotes, anecdotes, lyrics and poetry, as Paula said “the list is endless!”

Some of her current designs incorporate James Joyce quotes, William Morris quotes, an illustration of our favourite chimneys in Poolbeg and of course a bit of Bob Dylan to boot! A really lovely and simple design comes in the form of her Eircode plates. Such a wonderful gift idea for new home owners or even as an every day reminder in the form of art (I still cannot remember the Eircode, speaking personally).

A local establishment where you can view Paula’s plates is The Vintage Inn, in Irishtown, when we can all return there of course!

Paula decided to use a Michael D. Higgins quote for a design for a plate and it soon became a best seller for her. She even sent one of the plates in question to Uachtarán na hÉireann himself for his 80th birthday. In return, she was delighted to receive a very gracious thank you letter soon after.
