Get in gear for the Lunchtime City Cycle!

The leisurely cycle will get going at 1pm today, taking participants on a 30 minute route over 5K, including the Docklands and East Link Bridge as part of National Bike Week.

Grand Canal Square will even be kitted out as a bike market for the event, with vendors peddling bicycle-related wares! Over 2,000 cyclists took part in the event last year, and this year there will be spot prizes from One4All, The Hat Society and Heritage Island for best fancy dress, best-dressed bike and fanciest helmet!

Michael Phillips, Director of Traffic, Dublin City Council said “Dublin City Council is organising the Lunchtime City Cycle again this year as part of its strategy to develop cycling in the capital. We are extremely happy with the rise in the number of people cycling and it is our intention to continue to increase and improve cycling lanes in the city so as to support the culture of cycling whether for business or pleasure.”

Although it is not necessary to take part, you can register online here. The first 500 registrants will receive a goodie bag on the day, with treats from 98fm, One4All, Broderick’s and The RSA. Everyone who registers will be entered into a draw to win an iPad Mini!

The Lunchtime City Cycle is free to attend. Participants must be over 16 years of age. Gather at Grand Canal Square at 12.45pm sharp to take part.
