A real clash of the titans comes to Dublin 4 this month, with a sumo wrestling tournament in aid of Pieta House!

16 competitors will battle it out in Dublin 4’s very own sumo basho, until only two champions remain standing!

Admission costs €5, with all proceeds going to Pieta House. This is the third tournament that organiser Jennifer Betts has run in aid of the suicide prevention centre, which provides support to those at risk from self-harm and their families. She told NewsFour just what the group means to her: “Pieta House has helped lots of people I know, so they’re a charity very close to my heart… While it’s great to raise much needed funds, it’s also important to me to spread awareness, and I hope one day to contribute to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.”

Between the sumo wrestling tournaments and some coffee mornings, Jennifer has raised a total of around €7,500 to date.

With eight men and eight women needed to take part, there are still some spaces left for competitors, so if you think you have what it takes to wrestle your opponents into submission – and all for a good cause – contact Jennifer on 086 367 2047.

The tournament will be taking place from 8pm in Clanna Gael Fontenoy on Saturday, February 27. A raffle on the night will see lots of prizes to be won, and a DJ will keep the things going once the tournament has come to a close!
