Michelle Carey is set to make her formal capped international debut in the upcoming EuroHockey Championships in Amsterdam in June. She previously played against Great Britain in Belfast earlier this year in an uncapped series.

Michelle played all her underage hockey and senior hockey with Railway Union until joining UCD where she studies Engineering. She is a sporting all rounder who previously played with the Dublin U16 Gaelic Football team. Co-incidentally her uncle is current GAA President Larry McCarthy. Her multi-sport background has helped her develop and she will now represent Ireland on one of the biggest stages at the European Championships.

Ireland are in Pool A and kick off their first game of the tournament against the hosts Netherlands on Saturday evening June 5th, which will have a crowd of 4,000 in attendance in line with Dutch regulations for outdoor sporting events where some crowds are currently allowed. Ireland then play Scotland on June 7th and Spain on June 9th, to finish off their group games before crossover play-offs.

The Euros will act as an ideal preparation for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in July, where the Ireland Women’s Hockey Team will be the first ever Irish women’s team in any field or court sport to represent Ireland at the Olympics. We wish them all the very best of luck there.
