Ringsend’s own Abbie Larkin, who just turned 18 last April is the youngest member of the Irish Women’s Football team who represented Ireland in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia.

The buzz around Ringsend/Irishtown has been nothing short of electric since the tournament started on July 20th. Banners, bunting and posters adorn houses and businesses in the community in support of Abbie and the team. NewsFour says well done to Abbie – you are a great credit to your community, your family, and your country.

You and the other girls in the team made Ireland proud. And while it wasn’t to be this time, no one is in any doubt that there will be many reasons to celebrate in the future.

Many thanks to the Larkin family for organising the big screening in Irishtown Stadium and for all who helped create the “Abbie Wall”, and to the Irish Pullovers whose Abbie song topped the charts, with all proceeds going to the Peter McVerry Trust.
