Dublin City Council’s Bikeweek Safe Cycle will commence next week and will travel through the Dublin 4 area.

Beginning at noon on Wednesday June 15th at the Grand Canal Quay in Dublin 2, the cycle will cover 5km of city streets. This will take them through Grand Canal Street, Bath Avenue, Londonbridge Road, Church Avenue, Sean Moore Road, Pigeon House Road, York Road, Thorncastle Street, Bridge Street and Ringsend Road before finishing up on the Grand Canal Quay.

The 5km cycle, which launches at 12.30pm, is intended to be a fun and easygoing trip with An Garda Siochana present to stop traffic en route. It should take 20 minutes to complete.

Places on the cycle must be pre-booked, which can be done at the Bikeweek Safe Cycle Facebook page. Each cyclist will be in with a chance of winning a €150 bike shop voucher.

National Bike Week is an annual event which promotes cycling in Dublin and showcases it as a cycle-friendly city. This year it will be celebrated from June 11th to the 19th. The number of cyclists in Dublin is at its highest since Dublin City Council began keeping records in 1997, with almost 11,000 cycling into the city every day.
