Back to Hockey at Muckross

After a well-deserved Christmas break it was back to hockey for all in Muckross in early January. We temporarily said goodbye to the Head Coach of our Sunday Academy Sophie Hjselth who started a six-month Erasmus. We were delighted to call on Orla O’Donnell and Aimee Wyse, two experienced coaches to fill the void left by Sophie until her return. Both coaches ensured that there was a seamless transition and that the children continued to develop their hockey skills in a fun and positive environment.
On the competitive front, the season is drawing to a conclusion and at the time of writing the Minor and 6th Class teams have completed their respective leagues.
Five out of the six teams in the Minor and 6th class group have topped their respective league and will be soon in semi final action.
This is a wonderful achievement and testament to the hard work and enthusiasm that the children bring to each training session and match. They have formed a close bond with the respective coaching teams headed up by Adam Clayton and Sophie Barnwell and it is truly amazing to see their sporting and social development over the last number of months.
Our First Year and Inter teams are still in league action with some pivotal fixtures ahead which will determine final league places and hopefully some semi final action to look forward to. Our Minor squad competed in the McCann Indoor Cup over two weekends in February which was kindly hosted by Portrane Hockey Club. The team finished third which was an incredible achievement since this was their first experience of indoor hockey. Credit to their coach Eoin Brennan who has firmly instilled a love of “the boards” into the girls! Muckross Hockey Club would also like to acknowledge the achievement of many of the Minor squad who were part of the Muckross Park College school team that won the Schools Minor Cup against Loreto Foxrock in what was a thrilling final in Three Rock Rovers. Finally, Muckross Hockey Club has just launched its major fundraising initiative for the season – The Muckross Spring Raffle. We have a fabulous list of prizes that will appeal to all with tickets purchased as per the secure link below.
Muckross Hockey Club Raffle 2022 – Muckross Hockey Club (clubforce.com) Some key points to note about the raffle: Tickets are €10 each. Buy 5 get one free or buy 10 get 2 free!
The draw will take place on Saturday 9th April 2022.
A 10% donation from the raffle proceeds will be made to the club’s charity partner CRY Ireland (Cry – Cardiac Risk in the Young) with all remaining proceeds reinvested back into the club. This Raffle is vital for the Club and we call on all in the local community to support it as best you can. We ask that once you have purchased your tickets that you circulate the link to family, friends and work colleagues and encourage them to purchase tickets. If we all pull together, we can ensure that the Raffle is a massive success and we can continue to provide our children with a positive and fun environment in which to develop their hockey skills.
