So, on my first excursion to the Abbey I chose to see a new rendition of Ibsen’s masterpiece, ‘Ghosts.’ This
new interpretation was written and directed by Mark O’Rowe. I chose to see this particular play as it explores complex ideas of love, duty, and most importantly family.

events portrayed in Ulysses? The event was the brainchild of the Irish literati of the day, and saw Patrick Kavanagh, Flann O’ Brien, Anthony Cronin, A.J. Leventhal (registrar Trinity College), John Ryan (editor of the Envoy) and Tom Joyce, a cousin of the authors, attempt to retrace the steps of Leopold Bloom and Stephen Dedalus.

The annual blessing of the boats took place on Sunday May 14th in the bustling Poolbeg Yacht and Boat Club. Fr Ivan was accompanied by Canon Leonard Ruddock, who is the Church of Ireland Rector for Irishtown and Donnybrook, and Fr Derek Harris who is originally from Ringsend and one of the yacht club’s oldest and longest members.

Mick O’Brien – Part 1

Mick O’Brien was born on August 10th 1893 in Kilcock in County Kildare* His family emigrated to England and he grew up in County Durham. He took up football in his teenage years and by the time he was eighteen he was playing for the famous Blyth Spartans club, in the amateur North-Eastern League. Having made his name as a top player in that league he was scouted by Glasgow Celtic, who signed him in 1912. That move could’ve been his big break but it didn’t work out.
